2026 BMW i5 Interior, Engine, Price  –  For decades, BMW has offered a 5-series premium vehicle. However, the i5 is the first iteration to be exclusively electric. With the exception of the absence of a gas engine, the 2026 i5 provides a driving experience similar to that of its gasoline-powered counterpart, making it an accommodating and cozy vehicle with a hint of BMW’s distinctive agility.

With 593 horsepower and a 0-60 mph pace of in 3.3 seconds, the dual-motor M60 xDrive variant comes close to being an electric M5 super car. The 389-horsepower xDrive40 and 335-horsepower eDrive40 aren’t as fast as the i5, but they have longer range. The eDrive40, which is the rear-drive variant, has the best range at 295 miles per charge. The i5’s digital dashboard sweeps in front of the driver and passengers, illuminating them with adjustable gauges and BMW’s iDrive 8.5 infotainment system.

Exterior and Interior

Like the gasoline-powered 5-series, the i5 has a roomy and luxurious interior. While the battery doesn’t obstruct the inside, the trunk isn’t quite as roomy as it is in the 5-series. In the i5, you may choose between leather and a faux-leather option dubbed Veganza. For an upscale feel, you can even choose a set of glass interior controls. The M60 xDrive comes standard with heated and ventilated front seats and massage as an optional extra on the eDrive40.

A massive, curving panel housing the i5’s 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge display takes up much of the dashboard real estate. Easy-to-use and updatable through over-the-air upgrades, BMW’s newest iDrive 8.5 interface is always evolving with the times. There is an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot, in-dash navigation, a wireless charging pad for smartphones, a Harman/Kardon sound system, and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto as standard features on all versions. A head-up display is an available extra.

Engine and Performance

One of three i5 versions is the eDrive40, which gets 335 horsepower and uses a single electric motor to propel the back wheels. The xDrive40 puts a second electric motor on the front axle and offers 389 horsepower and all-wheel drive. An M60 xDrive with more power, a sportier suspension tune, wider tires, rear-wheel steering, and active anti-roll bars makes for a more athletic ride and adds 593 hp to the total.

It’s also the hotter version of the M60 with dual motors. After testing the eDrive40, we can attest to its refined ride and smooth powertrain; it’s virtually indistinguishable from a gas-powered 5-series, down to the reduced engine noise and rock-solid chassis. The xDrive40 model has not been driven by us yet. In spite of its bulk, the i5 M60 proved to be an amazingly agile sports sedan during our testing, and the car’s powerful twin-motor engine offered plenty of acceleration thrills.

With an impressive 105 MPGe on the highway, the eDrive40 is the most fuel-efficient i5 variant, according to the EPA. The M60 xDrive, on the other hand, has an extremely low highway MPGe rating of just 86. At our earliest convenience, we will test drive the i5 along our 75 mph highway fuel economy route and report back with our findings.

The i5 eDrive40 has an 84.3 kWh battery pack under the floor, allowing BMW to claim that it can go 295 miles on a single charge. Currently, we do not have the xDrive40’s EPA rating. The two-motor M60 is less fuel-efficient and only gets 256 kilometers on a single charge. The i5 comes standard with driver-assistance technologies like blind-spot monitoring and automated emergency braking, and it offers optional more advanced features like BMW’s Highway Assistant hands-free driving mode. Important security measures comprise:

A 2026 BMW i5 may cost anywhere from $68,275 to $85,275, with the exact amount depending on the model and any extra amenities chosen. The eDrive40 has a slightly longer maximum range than the performance-focused M60 model.
