As standard equipment on the BMW M1 is one of the best infotainment systems on the market today. Most items are where you’d expect them to be, the menus make sense, and there aren’t a lot of superfluous touches to complete a task. The three main ways to engage are through a responsive touchscreen, a rotary dial/touchpad that sits next to the gear selector, and voice commands and hand gestures.

The BMW M1 has a plethora of driver assistance and advanced safety technologies, yet they have warned me of impending danger on more than one occasion. During my test, I encountered a few of sporadic issues with the M1’s safety systems. Though the sport seats are quite supportive and provide excellent comfort, those of lower stature may find it difficult to get in and out of this tall SUV due to the seats’ excessive padding.
